I kept getting air in the line, and no pedal when bleeding the system. I replaced the master cylinder, I thought I had bench bled it properly (didn't check it with a screw driver in the piston rod hole though). And I replaced the slave cylinder. I was still getting air bubbles and no clutch pedal.
I removed the master cylinder and lines for a closer inspection. Couldn't find a cracked line. I sealed the slave cylinder input part of the line and put the master elbow in a wheelbarrow of water. When I depressed the master plunger with a screwdriver tiny air bubbles would escape from the connection at the "white plastic" ring. If I turned the connection certain ways it wouldn't leak bubbles but the more that "white plastic" ring seperated, the more bubbles.
How freely should this connection spin? Should I be able to spin and seperate the "white plastic" ring? Are some air bubbles acceptable at this connection? Not specifically the connection at the master cylinder but the metal sleeve that butts up against the white metal ring prior to the part that goes into the master cylinder elbow. Its an FM145 trany in a 2.9 87 4x4 ext cab. I tried to post a picture on photobucket. The master cyl elbow is (A) the 2 arrows point to the white plastic ring and the metal sleeve is (B).
