in doing research prepairing for mine, ive noticed not alot of people go for leaf springs.

is the coils really that much more popular?

i found a couple decent links.

anybody know of some good links for a ttb ranger going to a leaf sprung solid axle??

thanks in advance!

They go that way because a TTB truck is already set-up for coils and if the axle you are using has coil mounts, then thats the easiest way to go.

What axle are you going to put under your truck?

im not exactly sure yet. im just planning, and got to start getting finances together (which might mean a second job for a day or two a week).

its almost definately going to be full width front and rear. so probably a d44 up front.

Well I would keep it simple and keep it coil.

There was a time that I was going to do leaves and then was convenced to do coils and they were right, was much simpler install and rides nicely. Im currently running a D30 with 6.5 xj lift coils that gave me 5 inches of lift in the front and it rides smoothly. Ive stuck my head out my window while driving (dont do that Im a professionaly trained idiot) and watched my suspinsion move quite a bit over bumps that I wasnt feeling. Your going to fell the big bumps, no getting around that to much. Most people run 3.5 or 5.5 EB coils with their D44 swaps.

I know I couldnt be happier going with coils, but thats just me.

alright. now what if i found a 44 with the leaf perches?

i know that of course the coil would ride much better, but which would handle better off road and such? seems like the leafs would limit some of the things. just wondering.

Cut off perches and buy weld on wedges.

Look up either my swap posts or my build thread. Very easy to put a sas together. Leaf springs would require way more fabrication and not ride as good.

Here is mine

I don't have a build thread but I do have a few pictures and I'll offer all the help I can.

I wouldn't say that leaves are any more work then coils nor is it any more expensive. As for coils being better offroad or vice versa....well that debate has been going on for as long as offroading has been around.

I went with leaf springs because my axle was setup for them and my dad runs a spring shop, so I got my spring for free.

nice trucks guys! im really liking jester's setup.

seems like ill be doing whatever the axle i find is setup for already.

the leaf spring just seems simpler to me in the fab world, because i plan on adding lift when i do it, and i dont wanna buy another set of drop brackets for the radius arms, and theyd be a pain for me to do in a quick swap. plus having to buy another set of coils after i paid for a skyjacker kit, then got the sas back in my head again.

My whole kit is bolt-on. Welding not required.

did you buy alot of the parts?

my problem is funds are tight right now and a buddy has most of the materials to build a leaf sprung axle.

thats my thing, i have a xj d30 geared and locked and all that i got a while back. was gonna put it in my 00 ranger but sold it, and i can get leaf sprung d44's and 60's all day for super cheap. and i have a set of springs that worked really well in my old YJ that i wouldnt mind using. i know alot about building leaf sprung rigs and outboarding them and all that stuff. basically whatever needs to be done i can do it. as far as coils and links and all im dumb as a rock:icon_rofl:

Using long arms and coils actually is quite easy. I put the coils on my axle and it helped me center my axle under the truck. I just took some very careful meassurements of where to mount the mounts for my longarms to the frame. Good part is my arms have a huge range of adjustablitiy that I can play with it all day to put the axle where I want. I will say it is kinda hard to do all that with leaves, you kinda gotta get that right the first time.
