Ok I have a 99 XLT 4.0 Ranger and here is the deal. I see that JC Whitney sells 5 leaf heavy duty leaf springs for my Ranger for like $186 a piece. Is this cost effective or is a junkyard swap more reasonable and if so what will fit my Ranger? I have to leave it up to the experts here since this is all a little new to me.

Thanks

im not a fan of jcwhitney for vital parts such as suspension components. their parts tend to be a little...ahh...low quality.

if you want heavy duty, the springs off of an explorer are stiffer and will give you a small lift in the rear. you could also build your own pack out of 2 ranger packs to achieve the ride height and stiffness you want.

I wanted new leafs just for a little more weight capacity...not much but I will be hauling a lot of dirt and rocks.

Often JC has name brand stuff, they just don't tell you what brand it is in the catalog. Only thing, I'd make sure that they are in fact heavier than your stock springs. There was a factory HD rear spring on a lot of Rangers also, so you might find one in a junkyard. Or use the Explorer springs.

Personally I would just throw in a long add a leaf. That would make it squat less under load. Plus they're alot cheaper than a new set of leafs, and you won't waste your old set.
