Hey I got a 98 Ranger that is a Manual and was wonderin' what the largest engine block can fit in there, or how to get the most power out of it.

I have a 4.0L in there now and it feels just awful. I want more power. New to this and havin problems where to start.

With a bit of surgery you can stuff a 460 in. Not sure if it would be emmissions legal where you are. And due to the cost of gas now-a-days, it probably wouldn't be the best idea anyway.

if you search you will find a wealth of info.the 98+ rangers are the easiest.also search "explorer swap"

A 302 or 351W is a good fit. Anything else will cause you more headaces. How much are you wanting to invest and how much of the work can you do yourself?
