Kroussin 93 Explorer build

well trans is back in with the new slave. t-case is back in. but still have to hook everyting else back up to it. also took the exhaust out and redid some welds on it since the top was kinda sketch. dont know why i didnt take it out to weld it in the first place. welds turn out so much nicer when you can do them comfortably and not get burned the whole time.

Still have a ton of work to get done before it can be "ready" to go out this weekend. from the reports back from up north it sounds like the only thing that going to have to be 100% is the winch. got a report back from a snowmobiler buddie and he said 10 mile north of where we will be going still has waist deep or greater snow. from the wether here it seems like our big spring run could be anyday now. however still planing on mid april like normal. amazing how snow level's change between 50 miles

and for today i did a lot of little stuff. biggest project done today was to clean the garage. it got pretty trashed from the on-call thing had no time to clean before i had to leave on calls and would get back and start on a different project as i didnt have the motivation to work on what i originally was.

so here are the pictures from today.

After burning out 3 blower motors on the wood furnace in the past two years it was time to add some filteration. (and soon to have better ductwork) i nabbed this return air from a furnace changeout on friday worked perfectly to go over the fan and filter covers everything

here's what happens when the caps go missing from an axleshaft. or some would say here's what happens when you run 38's on a 1/2 ton axle. but i highly doubt too big of a tire was the issue here. in knee deep snow with minimal traction.

so while draining the front diff in prep for changing the axle seal i noticed this on the driverside axle joint. look's like i spun a cap even with it being tacked (altho not that good). clips are still in place so i might just throw in a couple of better tacks and see how things go. i know i'm just giving excuses but these were tacked outside in the snow and blowing wind was in a bit of a hurry to get things done.

and the new much smaller toolbox compliments of my brother. traded him my larger one as it fits in his K-5 perfectly. will hopefully pick up 1 more of these this week to put all the recovery stuff in and face it to the back door.

Damn spinning tacked and clipped caps, thats interesting. Its not uncommon for guys to put 2 tacks on em from what ive seen. And i doubt its from the bigger rubber, hell i see many guys runnin 44's on stock 1/2 ton axles in full size rigs in 4 feet of mud with high horse power big blocks.

welp headed out yesterday wheeling and by the time we made it roughly 10 miles north the snow total was nearly double. by the time we made it to my camp road 20-25 miles north it was pretty evident we werent going to be getting into my camp since its a couple miles off the plowed road but we gave it a good shot anyhow! snow was between knee to waist deep and the rescent thaw-freeze-thaw-freeze made it very intresting as soon as you broke thru the 2nd or third crust you were hung. at one point in time trying to winch myself back ontop of the snow i felt it fall thru 4 different layers and the tires still werent on the dirt.

and the rest of the ride home was uneventfull. aside from almost wiping out a newer explorer that the idiot owner had parked on the inside of a blind corner.

Love it.

What have the cops said, if anything, so far about running FW axles?

what's all that white stuff on the ground??? i've never seen that stuff before?!?!

Hey it wheels!
not its first time out but the first time out with more than 1 picture.

Love it.

on the mazda i got questioned once but there is no law about tire/tracwidth and fender coverage. the mazda had a couple of "infractions" but never got ticketed for those. the explorer ended up much higher than the mazda and i'm not sure how. we will have to see if i get nailed for frame height and bumper height. if i get nabbed for the bumper i can add to it to make it lower. if i get it for the frame i have to lower its ride height since they dont allow count anything that has been added below the factory frame. as for the steering your not suposed to have it welded together or anything welded to it so i'm SOL there. but i doubt they will get that far unless i give them an attitude. Work with them and they are alot easier going. since this doesnt look like the typical lifted truck up here most cops realize shortly after talking with me that i'm not (typically) out to party and rip stuff up.

and to believe we have way less snow than we normally do right now. were somthing like 30" shy of our average right now.

Looks like you guys had fun

had a blast even tho we didnt get in nearly as much wheeling as we would have liked to. anything off trail was typically short lived and insued by recovery gear. tried all sorts of spots up in the area. mulitple stucks thruout the day and the rear tires hadnt left the roadway. best attempts were normally full throttle runs that would come to a halt withing 10 to 15 yards.

hopefully will have a good crew for our spring run in mid to late april (weather pending)

I just wish we would get that much snow here.

Did you loaf the tires? They don't look it at all. Looks like killer snow wheeling there!

Loaf the tires? guess i'm behind on the lingo.
if by loaf you mean cut then yes. ran the iroks in the rear and trxus up front for this trip. both are cut. didnt get any justifiable results from switching from the sx's since i dont think anytire was going to make it thru there. the only noticable differance is it doesnt feel nearly as heavy. which i found an explination for.

I just wish we would get that much snow here.

no you dont shuts down wheelin just about all together. around my house there isnt nearly as much snow and is still wheelable. hopefully will get out and get some good pics this weekend but we are suposed to get nailed with snow in the next day or so.
