girlfriend is looking for her own wheeling rig, she wanted a old chevy with an automatic. but she also wants another row of seats... so i convinced her to look into bronco's :icon_hornsup: . she had one with a 351 before and always talks about it.

it needs to be an automatic, i would prefer a 351 over a 302, but iether or is fine. i am familiar with ttb, just not the d44... its pretty much all the same tho.

she is real interested in the 66-77 ( who isnt) but my pockets arent that deep and id hate to demolish one of them on the trail. there rare enough.

so what years should i be looking at? she needs to keep up with me so 35s maybe 37s, locker(s). any years i should avoid? problem areas? just lookin for the scoop before i decide to throw cash into one.

thanks guys.

TTB would be 80-96. Before that has solid front axles.

Personally I like the looks of the 80-86 ones. Inside and out they are a sharp looking truck. Not real common either.

As far as engines go, the later the better.

it seems that the later years also go for dirt cheap too. im sure i could pull enough flex out of a ttb d44 for her, she gets scared on a lot of off camber situations, and wont be trying to flex her stuff out. i think she mainly wants to go through some mud holes in her own rig.

what year did they phase out the carb? i dont want to mess with that junk. and id also preferably not wanna have to rebuild an auto more than once, i assume the later years have a better auto?

Around here I see some real muddy, jacked up 90s Cherokees

This is my '92 Bronco. 5.0 e4od 234k miles.

Problem areas with Broncos are gutter/body cracks at rear of gutter. Mine has cracked and will need to be repaired. Rear roll down window/tail gate is a piece of shit. Mine works but I think it could have been designed better.

So sounds like there mechanicly sound. Pretty much no matter the year. How do the auto transmissions hold up?

I would find an earlier one with a c6, witch is only a 3 speed but is bullet proof, but if you wanted and over drive or a later year bronco the e4od is allot better then the aod, you can tell and e4od from an aod is if it has a push button overdrive override then its and e4

Get a 1996 for the win. The E4OD tranny's were made tougher, problems worked-out and it is electronically shifted for efficiency. You also get better engine management with Mass air flow. I ran up too a 6" spring up front, with 16" of travel and 37's.

That is the stuff i like to hear.
