I had the drivers side wheel bearing fail on me the other day. I got the grinding sound going into a turn. When I jacked up the truck, there was play in the wheel in and out from the 12 and 6 positions. I replaced the wheel bearing, and the truck ran better but I started getting a loud knocking sound from the front while braking. I checked all the bolts and they're all tight. It also knocked while going in reverse and having the wheels fully turned.*
Suspecting a cv axle, I replace that one on the drivers side as well as replaced the rotors and pads. It was better for about 24 hours, the knocking was still present but fainter, I had assumed the other side needed to be done and was going to tackle it Monday. Since then, the knocking has come back with a vengeance, and seems to happen every time I brake while moving (does not happen when stationary and applying brakes) and is louder than before. It's also grinding, almost sounds like the brakes are dragging.*
The only other thing to note would be one of the caliper return pins (I guess you could call them, 15 mm bolts that attach the caliper to the cradle and help return the caliper after braking) is sticking/not going out on its own.*
I have replaced upper control arms, tie rod ends, and lower ball joints and sway bar bushings this year. Swaybar links feels solid. No play in either tire now. Please help, this is driving me nuts and getting expensive
