Gday guys,

I have a 4.0L OHV I build 62K ago. Runs great, but I found on Rock Auto they offer a knock sensor for it. Where exactly does that go on the engine?

Thanks for your input,

J

1990-2000 Rangers used the 4.0l OHV engine, they never needed, or had a knock sensor

In 2001 Rangers got the 4.0l SOHC engine which ran higher compression and did need a knock sensor so it could run on Regular gas(87 octane)

If you just use Ranger 4.0l for parts you can get odd results since Rangers used two different 4.0l engines
Same for Ranger 2.3l, two different 2.3l engines, well actually 3 counting the 2.3l diesel

Knock sensors usually attach to the block, usually on one side near a motor mount, 4.0l SOHC had it on the block but in between the heads, under lower intake manifold
