hey, im new to the site. but i got a '89 ford ranger extended cab prerunner. i just got it last week and like all prerunners it has a "kill all" switch. so i decided to test it, and guess what. it didnt work...

so what is it supposed to be connected to?

it looks like its grounded. and i checked it, there isnt any hot wires going to it.

I'd use the switch to control a large dual-pole relay. I'd use one pole of the relay to break the wire from the inertia switch to the fuel pumps, and the other pole to break the line between the ignition switch and the ignition coil.

I would think that would shut down everything that's dangerous, but if there's further concern, you could always use a larger multi-gang relay and switch off further circuits.

Of course, I don't know how it's "supposed" to be done, so someone else may have to comment on that.

thats a perfect idea... where do i get one? :icon_thumby:

Auto parts store should have a bunch of suitable ones. Ask for a "12 volt, 30 amp, double-pole relay"...although if they're lazy morons they may tell you they can't find it without knowing what vehicle it comes from.

Auto parts stores dealing with farm equipment may be easiest to work with.

You'll likely have to crimp spade connectors to the ends of the wires to hook it up with, but that's not hard.

Let me know what you find,
Spott
