hey all for my 2.8l in my bronco 2 the kickdown rod going to the trany doesn't line up. its off by like and inch or two, i was wondering how important is that unit that sits inbetween the carb and intake that has a vacuum hose hooked up to it? vaccum diaphram i think? if i remove that spacer it would come very close to lining up. can the motor run without it and hook the vacuum hose up to another source?the trany is a c5.

I think you are talking about the EGR spacer. You need to keep it in place the carb wont just bolt to the intake manifold. If the edr dont leak you can jus unplug the vacuum hose to it if you are not running the computer. If you are still running the computer everything has to work. As far as the kickdown lever and rod can you push the lever back on the carb to fit the rod it just kind of float around there when you have it in drive it pushes the rod forward when you push the throttle to WOT then it shifts the tranny down. Did your truck come with the C-5. Pics would be nice if you dont need to pass emission duraspark it and just cap the EGR. Maybe the kickdown lever needs to be adjusted at the tranny. Push it all the way forward loosen the nut a little just enough to move the lever forward enough to put it on the carb lock it down and road test it. Keep messing with it until it downshifts with the foot feed the way you want it to. The vacuum to the tranny modulator on the passenger side of the tranny needs to be plugged into manifold vacuum on the tree by the dizzy.

the unit was originally a 4 spd standard, when i bought it at the auction the tranny was blown so i stuck in the c5 auto. it still has the same carb on it so it doesn't have the little lever that the autos came with where the kick down rod would connect to, so i fabed up a little bracket for it to hook too. i did have it all hooked up and running before until the c5 went south so i sent it in to have it rebuilt and now the lever doesn't line up. it already has the dura spark some suggested to go with a kick down cable instead of the rod. i have searched all of the speed shops and such and no one seems to carry one.

How does it run with that carb you can probably get a 2150 nonfeedback carb and get it running a little better just make sure it has the 1.08 venturi and you can use the jets out of that carb either #48 or #50s. Late 70s pinto or mustang II with the 2.8 are ideal if you can find one good enough to rebuild the 1.08 also came on 302s just make sure it is for an auto.

the engine runs excellent and there is no problems with the carb its just the kick down rod is not hooked up and i wanna hook it up so i can drive it but not sure how to adjust the lever on the trany to make things line up. i just had the trany rebuilt a few years ago and don't wanna mess with any unfamiliar adjustments on the trany.

Just bend the rod to get it lined up.
You will likely have to adjust the TV when you get it running anyway. A rebuild shop can only "guess" on the proper adjustment for the throttle valve without the car being there.

If you hook it direct up to the carb throttle lever unless you make the adaptor have the same throw as a stock carb with the adjustment screw how are you gonna dial it in. Maybe you can cut it and weld/braize a all thread on one section and a nut on the other to make it longer and adjustable with a ball and socket connection on the carb similar to the throttle cable. Adapt improvise

I have a carb with a TV lever on it. I won't need it anymore. Can have it if you want it, if I can manage to get it off the carb. :D

actually thats a great idea with the threaded section and nut for adjustability. i think i will do that. someone told me recently that a brake cable from an atv already has a end that is threaded with an adjustable nut so i am looking into this. thanks for the offer hotrodlincoln i think i will look into this thread adjustment idea.
