Kick down cable position

I just added the throttle cable mod on my '93 XLT 3.0L and really like the result with just one zip tie on the throttle side.

My question is whether the kick down cable is supposed to have that much slack in it. I don't see how it serves any function like this. I can't move the cable in or out by hand, so I assume it's attached at the other end. Is it supposed to be like this?

WAG would be that yes, it's supposed to be that way. You really only want that to activate after the throttle has move a fair bit (over half way for sure.) So a longer cable is a cheap way to set that from the factory.

This assumes it's actually just a kick down cable and not a full on throttle valve cable like was used on Chevys.

Thanks very much. I trace the cable housings out the front of the firewall and see the outboard (throttle) cable routing forward to the throttle body; the inboard (kick down) cable makes a hard curve and routes down the back of the engine toward the transmission, so this all checks.
