key swap

ive read here and elsewhere about swapping out the 08 torsion keys for keys from an earlier year to get some lift up front. not being very mechanically inclined, i discussed doing this with a 4x4 mechanic. :icon_welder: his question was how this would differ from just cranking the bars with the existing keys, as the geometry seems to be the same. can anyone explain this to me? is changing the keys versus cranking to achieve the same amount of lift easier on the front end suspension components?

unless the keys on an 08 are clocked differently than those of other years, then i see no benefit. if youre only after a couple inches i say crank it up.

they are. ford, for some reason, apparently gas mileage and possibly ride quality up front, decided to lower the ranger in 08. i just measured an 06 ranger just like mine, and it does sit an inch or so higher than my 08. if all other suspension components stayed the same, it makes sense that a swap would raise it an inch or more. if the only drawback is a slightly stiffer ride, ill take the ride. scoll down to the pic of the keys on the pickup bed. the 08's are on the left

and if anyone with an 07 or older sport 4x4 can tell what t-bars they have id appreciate it. mine are b's. i measured the diameter of mine and the ones on the 06 i mentioned and they appear to be the same. i couldnt make out the numbering on the bar. if the difference in the stiffness of the bars comes from bigger diameter and not materials than they should be the same

The earlier Ranger torsion key still sets the bar at a higher level than the '08 key, probably more than what you could adjust it by with the bolts alone. '08's also have shorter blocks in the rear.
