Need to replace this on my 94 ranger. Went to ford and of course it's obsolete, yet there are 5 different part numbers. Apparently it depends with the key pattern...ok..

Checked with part stores and no idea on which one to get? Any ones better than the others anyone can suggest?

I do have one option for an oem part, I am going to look at soon. This junkyard I found awhile ago in the middle of nowhere to where it has a good amount of 89-94 rangers. Most are complete. .going to check it out soon to see if any have a key tumbler in good shape with keys. Certain members know I prefer oem over aftermarket.

Are there any real differences between the key lock cylinder from 89-94? Even though the column and dash are the same. Does it matter from auto shift or tilt steering to regular steering column?

I have a regular steering column..I did replace from a parts truck 7 years ago. Reused the original key tumbler..30 years on the oem tumbler is great.

Any help is appreciated

I ordered a 1994 Explorer replacement key cylinder from Rockauto.com, using their online parts tree to select the correct component. I received a Doorman replacement, installed as expected, works great.

They come with a generic master key cut. To individualized it, have a locksmith set a pattern and cut keys for it once you get the new one.

Is it a problem with the cylinder itself of the inserts (I can't think of the correct name at the moment - tumblers?) in the cylinder being worn? I wonder if just replacing the inserts with new ones would fix the problem?

When I got my 97, the keys were sticking badly in the drivers door and the ignition. When I went to the locksmith, instead of having to get a new cylinder and a new door cylinder, he cut new keys from the computer code he found somewhere online, and knock on wood, it’s been working fine ever since.

Let me also say that these guys are “real” locksmiths, around for 50 years and they do everything. I’m sure if you send them the details on your truck that they can tell you what you need and send it to you long distance. it might cost a couple bucks, but they’ll back up what they do.

My two cents, hope it helps

key? no key.....key bad.

Think about that again. Maybe his truck isn’t so scary that you wouldn’t want to try to get into it.
Just make it scarier.
