Kennedy at Duke for surgery

You shouldn't tell me what to do. You have enough trouble taking care of yourself. I have gotten along fine all these years on this earth without your sage advice, so keep it to yourself.

Yea, the only sage advice that matters is shady's. We should all stop and listen to the world according to shady but don't try to have your own and heaven forbid, different view.

Shady, take your own advice and keep it to yourself. It is HIS senator. Representing HIS district not yours. Vote anyway you'd like in YOUR district.

As for senator Kennedy's drinking. Your saying you don't sit down with the occasional beer (or keg)?

How the hell would you prove something like that?????

You shouldn't tell me what to do. You have enough trouble taking care of yourself. I have gotten along fine all these years on this earth without your sage advice, so keep it to yourself.

I'm not wishing anything on anyone, I'm just looking for a little justice for the Kopechne's, as they certainly didn't get any from YOUR senator, or anyone else in the judicial system. This incident happened 16 years before you were even born, but this does NOT make it any less serious. Your man did what he did.

Yeah, same old story. I don't care what my man does so long as he brings home the bacon, the right thing to do be damned. Then we wonder why the country is in the shape it is in. shady

Wow shady, getting a little upset are we?

I'm hurt, I really am. I'm such a mess, how did you know? I must have so much trouble taking care of myself, how did you know? Oh wait, you don't, now I remember. I'm not going to keep my advice to myself just because you don't like it. You obviously aren't getting along in life too well if I can get a response like that from you on a message board.

As for the eye for an eye thing, I will try and dig up all the readings and notes I have on it that I had for my anthropology class this past semester.

I love you how misinterpreted my comment as well. I'm not relieving him of any guilt by saying he's done great things for my state. He killed someone and that's a awful fact. I'm not saying his political career has made up for that. I'm just saying that he has done some good things in life and unfortunately his brain tumor may stop that.

Shady, do you know the meaning of politics? It's who gets what, where, when how, and why. It's how modern societies function. Don't like it, join a premodern society like those in the Amazon of South America where politics don't exist.

I didn't give anyone any advice, and if you could read you would know this.

I also don't need YOU telling me what to do either. You were not asked to stick your nose in this anyway.

No, I stopped using alcohol many years ago. It serves no purpose, and does no good, as exhibited by "Wheres my pants" Kennedy.
Wow shady, getting a little upset are we?
When you start telling me what I should and shouldn't do, yes, it gets me upset, as it does with most people.

Juvenile response from a juvenile.

I don't give a damn. It has no meaning one way or the other. Don't bother "digging."

Did you read what you just wrote?????? Makes my point.

Wonderful advice from a 23 year old who doesn't have enough life experience to fill a gnats brain. Come back when you have been down the rocky road of life, and we can discuss it then.

That would have put a normal person in prison for a long time, no matter how much good they had done, or might have done in the future. Doesn't it strike you odd how he got around it?

Well, since you are apparently the "adult" here, why not just ignore my advice like most adults would do? If you don't like it, ignore my advice, just like anyone else would do.

My response was juvenile? You seem to think you know me so well, I think your response is pretty juvenile if you think that I seem to have trouble with taking care of myself.

So you're unwilling to listen to any opposing views to your own, are you? That's pretty mature.

It doesn't prove your point one bit. You're completely misreading my comments because you're stuck in your ways.

I don't need life experience Shady to know what politics is. The definition is a textbook one, one that you would know if you studied anything about politics. All modern societies function like this. Again, I challenge you to find a better solution without politics. You're life experience does not make you any more of a sage than I when it comes to this topic.

Oh it's not odd, he used his political power to cover it, no argument there. It was and is wrong.

Yes it is truly unfortunate that he drove that car off a bridge and as result that girl is dead.

But this guy has been surrounded by death. 2 brothers assasinated and another who died in a plane crash to name a few. The fact that the man is still sane is beyond comprehension.

Oh and to all who say that he's a lousy politician where are your facts to back that up? This man has been in the Senate for more than 40 years now. It is not a coincedence that Massachusettes has the best healthcare system in the country. Sen. Kennedy suffers from chronic pain everyday and yet everyday he is still out there battling for people's rights. He's just like his brothers Jack and Bobby. They fought for civil rights and healthcare and were assasinated because of it. Now if you think you could go through all this and still continue to do the job that all politicians swear to but only a few politicians actually do then go run. Til then I will support this man in the Senate til the day he resigns. I'm from the deep South and still understand this! And now to top it all off he just went through brain surgery and is already smiling to reporters and ready to get back to work. Could you do that???

Whatever advice you think you gave was ignored.

I don't know you at all, and don't care to. You seem to have trouble understanding that most have enough trouble with our own lives, getting by day to day with it's associated problems, that we really don't have time to try to tell others how to live their lives. Unless the advice is asked for, one is out of bounds by giving it.
So you're unwilling to listen to any opposing views to your own, are you? That's pretty mature.
What opposing view do you refer to????
It doesn't prove your point one bit. You're completely misreading my comments because you're stuck in your ways.
Yes it does. In your original post your insinuation was that even tho he had caused the death of someone, it was ok because he did good for the state of Mass. I wasn't the only one who read it this way.

I'm not claiming to be a "sage." But, I have lived for many years under different administrations. The thinking now is much different that it was then, as evident from your posts. Politicians/entertainers/sports figures in the early years would not have gotten away with what they do today. So, yes, you do need life experiences to have a better understanding of what goes on in todays society. We, the people, allow this to happen, and it stems from stinkin' thinkin'.
Til then I will support this man in the Senate til the day he resigns. I'm from the deep South and still understand this! And now to top it all off he just went through brain surgery and is already smiling to reporters and ready to get back to work. Could you do that???
Damn!! Another juvenile. Do have a clue as to what you are saying? Geezzz! I give up.

Shady you seem to be willing to argue with everyone, in fact I'd say you're trying to. But it still remains that you are in a 2 on 1 battle here and no matter how right you THINK you are there will always be those that disagree with you. So what? Let it go. You presented your version, we presented ours and now let us agree to disagree. Neither party is going to be swayed in their arguments and this will just go on and on til someone loses interest.

And all but Cheney should have done time for it. Hunting accidents happen.

I like mine better (applies to all parties)...
However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.

Well yes sir, you say so, I must let it go. Damn, for a long time there I thought I could live my life as I wished, and could speak when I wanted, but evidently not. So, when did you and 4X4 Ranger guy get the memo that you were in charge of me? I failed to get it. Maybe its in the mail.

A debate is a debate, and if it fizzles out, no big deal. Your support of a despicable man like Ted Kennedy, just because you think he does things for you, is sickening. If they would have thrown his sorry ass out of office, someone would have taken his place, and possibly have done a better job. No one is indespensable. shady

I'm not in charge of anyone. I just disagreed with you that eye for an eye works and that hoping for justice for one person by inherently condemning another is wrong. I'm entitled to my opinion as much as you are. Although if you give me your address, I'll be sure to send you a memo :haha:

The eye for an eye thing is what I was talking about. Hundreds of anthropologists and historians have studied the effects of the normative rules on cultures who have strictly practiced eye for an eye and the results are quite astounding on the links between cultural breakdown and civil law. I wanted to find the results for you so maybe you could take a look at them, but since you "don't give a damn", I guess I won't.

Just because you think he's a despicable man does not make him so. You're not the ultimate decider and judger of people Shady. You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not going to decide for the rest of us. The majority of MA residents disagree with you. Have you ever been a Mass. resident? If not, then you really can't say much and I don't blame you for your opinion of the man.

My original point is that it's horrible for any person to become afflicted with cancer. I still stand by that point.

Didn't Laura Bush run over someone when she was drunk driving? Hope the same rules apply to her that apply to Kennedy.

Where you thinking of this? I can't find anything to support her driving drunk but if she did then yes the same rules apply IMO.

In 1963 she was involved in a car accident by running a stop sign and hitting another car, killing classmate, Michael Dutton Douglas, who was driving the other car. According to the accident report released by the city of Midland, neither driver was drinking, and no charges were filed.[7] According to Bush's spokesperson, "It was a very tragic accident that deeply affected the families and was very painful for all involved, including the community at large. To this day, Mrs. Bush remains unable to talk about it."
