Is it really worth it to install a K&N cone filter to the throttle body? I saw the mod in the tech library and was just wondering if its a common mod to do. My current setup doesnt even use the heat from the exhaust because there is something missing under the air box. I even read on this site in a thread that the cone filter is bad for the engine because of the trapped heat that will get sucked in?

I got my answer already. Did a search. Should have done that first. sorry....anyway, if the mod is such a waste of time and money....why is it included in the tech library?

meh....i think it should be removed. Why encourage something thats a waste of time and money?

So, what about this "ram air intake" system some people talk about? I notice people will tell others about this system but they never go into depth about it. Id love to know and see how they did it...

I am not sure. A lot of that info is really old. They also recommend the use of 19lbs injectors as a performance upgrade... :annoyed:

What you read about the intake and "trapped" hot air, the stock intake pulls fresh air from the front of the truck. It's a cold air intake. The K&N cone filter will pull in hot air from under the hood if you don't make something to retain the fresh air intake. It's hard to design something better than the stock intake system.

"Ram Air" is a bogus term they use to try and convince people something is faster... Supposedly, it's supposed to "ram" air down the intake when you are moving by creating positive pressure in the intake tract... It doesn't do crap (ok, it might do something if you're going like 200+), fact is you just aren't ever moving fast enough to create enough positive pressure inside the intake system to effectively "ram" the air into your vehicle...

I see. Thanks for all the input guys. My stock air intake system is missing a piece beneath the air box that connects it to the plastic housing that runs to the front of the truck. So, as of right now...the stock cold air intake aint working unless I find a replacement for that missing piece. Is this a dealer only item or would any auto parts place carry it?

i've seen people make a sheet metal or plastic air filter covering, but its hot air non the less. what you can do (if you really want to) is just buy a K&N air filter replacement and use your stock setup.

dont expect 10hp gains, and there are some stuff people shouldn't waste money on.... like a "tornado" performance booster, or something like that!

Im gonna do some searching and see if I can find the stock air box piece. Im also thinking of picking up a AFE oe direct replacement filter. Anyone have experience with AFE filters?

There is nothing better than a plain old paper filter... Flows more air than your truck will ever need and doesn't allow any dirt to get in the motor...
