Did everyone see "K&N Air Filter by Mike Dehosse" in the tech library?

Which one do I get for my 1987 Ranger XLT 2.9L?

I don't want to have to do any work. :thefinger:

Here It Is:

Since none of you replied, I copied and pasted the text here:

K&N Air Filter by Mike Dehosse:

I found a parts store that sold K&N filters. I measured the outside diameter of my throttle body where the hose attached. It's 2 3/4-inches in diameter. I told the parts guy I wanted a cone shaped K&N filter that clamped on to a 2 3/4-inch flange. The filters that would work had a can shape. I knew that shape would interfere with the radiator hose so we found a filter that had an angled mount, K&N part number RU-1460. A K&N filter can also be mounted at the airbox end of the intake hose by inserting a small tube, and then clamping the hose, tube, and K&N filter together.

When removing the factory airbox you will also remove the hot air hose coming from the exhaust manifold and a vacuum hose. The vacuum hose should be removed and plugged at the engine. You should keep these pieces to bolt back on later if you live in an area with emissions tests / inspections.

^--so I guess it won't work since I need to get a smog check. Thanks anyways! :bawling:

screw that, go get a spectre filter from a parts store (pep boys, autozone, adavance, etc.) they're $20, they're the same thing as a k&n, you can wash/oil them too. dont waster your money on a K7n, you DO NOT get the 15hp increase they claim. in some isntances it's actually cost hp. you just see everyone in these magazines that wanna have poser 4x4's put them in their truck so they can get the stupid k&n sticker on their window

yeah, it will keep you from passing emissions tests....just keep the stock airbox and put it back in when you need to get it inspected. i did that for a few years before my b2 became a classic and i didnt have to get emissions tested

hahahaha emissions test, what's that??? lol
K and N's are way over rated in my opinion. i got one for my b2. its not helped a thing. now it is a sit in stock filter box filter- but it's useless in my opinion. i wouldn't wanna run an open filter on my 4x4 either...

Nascar engines run at over 9,000 rpm for 600 miles... NO nascar engine has a K&N filter on it! All of them have stock type filters. That, alone, should tell you something!

there are 3 subjects on this earth that everyone has an opinion on one sideor the other, that they will defend until the bitter end of death

they are:
1, K&N air filters
2, motor oil
3, religion

when it comes to these subjects everyone thinks they are right, correction: everyone knows they are right because: __________________

gauze filters only allow dirt to pass through when they are mis-used/mis-maintained, again not opinion
