i was looking into putting a new cold air intake into my 4.0 what do you guys think of the k&n 57 series?

If you do a search on here, you'll find MANY threads about K&N intakes. The general consensus on here is that they don't really do anything for power and they're not worth it. You're better off sticking with the stock intake.

look at the charts for k&n and rangers. on 97 and up its a gain of like 5hp at 4700 rpm or so. and idk many ppl who run their trucks up to 4700 rpm on a regular basis

Theres no way in hell you would gain 15 hp from a air filter change.

BTW IF these were so awesome Ford would have installed them at the factory.

IN FACT ford DID install one at the factory. Your Factory intake IS a cold air intake. It just doesn't look cool or make nifty sounds.

Also take this into consideration.

What exactly is a Cold air intake? Simple. it gets Colder air to put into the engine. How? by taking the air at its coldest spot which is outside the engine compartment.

There isn't a single K&N that does this. they all take air from INSIDE the engine compartment. where its hotter.

what they do do is. make your wallet lighter and make kewler sounds.

So even a drop-in air filter is useless, its best to stick with what you can find at the parts stores?

exactly. those k&n intake systems are junk, they just take are from under the hood which is obviously way warmer then the stock intake which runs up by the grill so it actually takes in cold air
