ok i came a cross a 76 ford with a manual 4 speed trans with a divorced transfer... i got an 89 ranger with dana 44 and ford 9. goin to put a 302 (or 5.0. i heard mustang motors are way different then other 302s.. dunno) anywho a 302...has anyone put this trans and transfer under a ranger. throwing a body lift may just take care of any clearance issues.. i wana buid the ranger for wheelin. id say no bigger then 36's. well thanx fellas. was just sitin thinking..any info would be great

302 and 5.0 are different is some ways however the basic engine is the same. 302's use a 28oz balancer and 5.0's use a 50oz balancer and the firing order is the same as a 351W on the 5.0 HO engines. You can take a 5.0 engine and put a 302 intake, carb, and distributor on it, change up the firing order and have a carb on a 5.0 or you can put a small base circle roller cam in a 302. This could go on for some time with the different combo's you could run. Big difference in firing order is the 302 starts with 1,5,4 and the 5.0HO starts with 1,3,7.

Do a google search and you will find a lot of information on the differences.

As far as 4x4 compatibility I'm not sure because I'm more into drag racing and really only deal with 2wd. Hope this helps you some.

:nono::nono: Wrong info. The 5.0 moniker was first used in 1979 with the Mustang. At that time all 302/5.0's were 28 oz/in balanced. Wasn't til 1981 or 82 that the switch to the 50 oz cranks was made. So the 302 and 5.0 are one and the same engine.

This is correct. The 302 and 5.0 are the same engine...302 stands for cubic inches, the 5.0 stands for liters. What makes it use a 28 ounce (oz) or 50 ounce is the crank...AS for your divorced tcase, not sure that will work without modding the fuel tank, but is not impossible...

thank you for the 5.0/302 info.. the devorced transfercase will cause issues with the gas tank??? it doesnt matter to me to much i will just mount it in the back or a fuel cell.. does anyone run the 4speed manuel trans with a divorced transfer???

I have heard of people running a T18, similar to the 4spd, but I haven't heard anyone run a divorced tcase, but it doesn't mean it can't be done...
