I know it's totally difficult, but what if?

I know I'm not alone in hating the "reach" over the tailgate when it's down flat.

I had a Van. like...

Honda added double action tailgate to the Ridgeline so it can be folded down or swung open.
Seen here: https://www.battisonhonda.com/blog/how-does-honda-ridgeline-dual-action-tailgate-work/

The fold down is just more practical, IMO, for pickups, since you often need the extra few inches for carrying longer loads.
But no reason it can't do both, just a matter of $$

You can buy tailgate conversion kits to make them swing out instead of fold down, and with a little body work and latch work it could be done as "dutch door" style :)

Since the Ridgeline only has support strap on one side I can see tailgate getting tweaked over time if heavier weight is put on unstrapped side, but I am no engineer

I have seen kits where the tailgate slides in under the bed too.

Or a liftgate you can just set on the ground would be great (and handy) too.
