Just Plain Stupied

Thats waty too tedious of a job for me I'll probly never crack into a axle housing without someone who knows what they are doing. Makes me grind teeth just looking at he pictures.:shok:

Thanks for the support Guys...

Ranger_.........I definately understand why you don't want to crack one open.........I didn't think I could do it either....BUT....between all the good advice and wanting to get better gas mileage, I just might get it done.

Now! Back out to the go-rajjjjjj......mo pics tonite....

Ohhh yeah......I'm going to keep adding new pics to the pics I already posted so the swap will be easier to view...

Brace yurself RSH..........Theo-o-o-o-original gears were 3.45's.

It was turnin 3,000 rpm at 70 mph and drinkin gas like a Lincoln.

So........I'm puttin in 2.94's like out of an older Mustang....that oughta get the rpm's down to 2,000 at 70mph.....top end oughta be around 165mph...waaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahhaaaaaaaa

Man! Those meds wipe me out every on a regular basis...I'll try getting under the truck today & start re-assembling the rear end.

Of course pics will be mandatory...waaaaaaaaaaaahahhahhahahahaaaaa

Ohhh yeah.......the Oem bearings were in great shape, but I'm changing them anyway because of being so close to 200,000 miles...the original owner must have changed the differential fluid every 50,000 miles...it wasn't even dark-colored when I drained it at 160,000...........30,000 miles ago.

O.K. I'm adding more pics of the re-assembly in post #2836...I divided the work with *******************************< those....

O.K................The gear swap is finished........tomorrow I'll drive it according to the instructions to break the gears/bearings in properly....the final new pics are posted in POST # 2836 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nice pics on the gear install DG......haha, i did the same thing to get my carrier bearings off too, dremel worked great. you need to get one of those POS electric impact guns. for being so cheap, they work great. took my pinion nut and ring gear nuts right off......they work great for using pullers too.

the lipstick was a good idea too

I gotta get out there....finsh rotating the tire.....and go break those gears in!!

:yahoo:

today--p.m......I just got back from breaking in the new gears.......no more CLUNK when I put the A/T into any gear!!!!

I did have one scare......I was watching the speedometer & the tach--the original gears had the engine turning 2,600 rpm at 60 mph

The new gears showed the same results.....2,600 rpm at 60 mph!!!!

I said to myself....Self---what do you do wrong???

Confusion & panic......then I glanced at the gps monitor......

It showed that I was doing 75 mph !!!!

O.K. now I get it....Stupied!....the new gears threw the speedometer off 15 mph....Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahhahahahahhaaaaaa...

Everything is cool.....the speeometer is adjustable...will take about 30 seconds to synchronize it with the GPS.....

nice job, I was linked to your post by ranger_mclaren, I have 24.5 inch tires and I get real tired of cruising down I-5 at 3k rpms.

yep...i went to 225/70R/15 and the rpm dropped down to 2600rpm (& that's in overdrive!!!!!)...I would have gone to 75R tires, but I was worried about scraping the tires on the fenders when turning into parking lots with those curbs at the edge of the street....

Welllllllll......I'm adding an electric choke to the 4 barrel......seems like when I jetted the carb down to keep from puffing smoke rings outta the dual exhaust.....the "cold weather moved in....and now the engine won't keep running when using the remote start & bucks & stalls until it warms up...10 minutes of jumping & leaping at every stop sign/traffic light......waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahhahahaaaa......

The housing is bolted on....next is the expansion coil-spring, the black cover, and the 2 wires.....

OOOOOOOOOOps......forgot to re-connect the distributor advance vacuum hose!!!

Well.....guess what!

The keychain-remote start won't work correctly with a basic carb....

The gadget cranks the engine correctly, but on a cold day, the engine doesn't idle fast enuff to keep running...carbed engines need to have the accellerator pedal pushed down slightly for the choke to engage properly....

So...I removed the fast-idle arm because it was binding....I'm going to add a plunger-type solenoid to the throttle-lever to cause it to open about 3/16th"....this will allow the choke to snap close/engine rpm to increase to about 1500 when the remote start is engaged...

(1960's technology.....waaaaaaaaaaaahahahahhahaha)
