Just Plain Stupied

That'll learn me NOT to run 15.9 gallons of gas outta the tank......

I'm gonna lay the replacement pump down on the bottom so it'll always be in nice cool gasoline & refill when the needle hits the E ....instead of driving it for another 100 miles until it's only got a pint of gas left in the tank :annoyed:

O.K.......change the pump......

No need to drop the tank....when I installed the '36 bed, I made easy access to the tank...here's the aluminum bed floor with the gas lid...

here's the board deck..........

009-13.jpg

here's the tank & sending unit.......
010-7.jpg

testing the sending unit connector to make sure there's 12 volts coming from the fuel pump relay--there's 12 volts!

011-7.jpg

the sending unit/pump is removed & votage is checked at the pump connectors--yep--12 volts....

014-3.jpg

a couple taps on the electric pump caused it to start turning about 1/2 speed until it slowed to a complete stop---I even jumped the pump straight off a good battery--it slowed until it stopped....

015-3.jpg

more later....gotta go install the new pump....

the new pump is connected to the sending unit

0172.jpg

I used the new o-rings to seal the sending unit....

0182-1.jpg

everything is connected...the new pump actually fills up the see-thru-filter that is connected in-line before the carb.

Well......the truck starts better/idles smoother/no hesitation at higheway speed/75 more h.p./ 14 more mpg....(uhhh..scratch the last 2 items ;missingteeth; )

mn_...........that no-good fuel line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alllllllllllllll-right......spent 1/2 a day under the hoods working on the carb...since I installed the new lectric fuel pump the truck's been idling ruff & hesitating on take-off...

but not no more....I yanked the two .066 jets & put .070 primary jets in....also modified the secondary metering plate to reduce the fuel flow (the engine bogged a little for about 3 seconds when the secondary kicked in before I modified the plate)....

it's all good now.....

Well, I haven't driven the Ranger, since last November and had to pull the battery and charge it the other day. Drove it twice, then let it set. Good thing I charged the battery, as the big truck the other day is down. Started it up and it showed no oil pressure. I am pretty sure the sensor is bad, but not worth risking (still would be rebuildable if the oil pump was bad). I need to get a oil pressure gauge to do some tests.
So then I had to do an errand and drove by the place that had the original 36 Ford in horrible shape, with a 10K price tag, and low and behold, it had been restored. I wished I had time to stop and had my camera with me (in the GMC). That said, it made me remember this thread and our conversation about the company that made these, closing when the owner died. Did anyone ever hear anymore about if anyone bought the molds?
Reason I ask, is since I bought a toy car (old 71 VW), due to a friend and his friend who were fixing it up, then stopped (cancer, didn't make it), I am considering if I am going to keep this, sell it, or give it to my niece as a first vehicle. Not enough time and money for everything and I would rather not see it just sit and rust.

Thanks
