Ok.......

I assume your askin bout the front springs?

If so, they don't have to be changed, both ours sit just fine if ya checkout the links in my sig, you'll see the builds from beginnin to present.....

Oops. Seems I missed the part about you already having the chevy laying there. By all means go for it.

But the 2.3 turbo can be done for much cheaper than you think. You just need to get your hands on a wrecked 83-88 thunderbird turbocoupe. It will have every thing you need to convert a ranger. It's easy because you re-use the ranger transmission, mounts, front accessories, etc. And 2.3's usually don't just take a crap. Mine's held up perfectly fine to shifting at 6500 under 18 PSI of boost!

yeah i just had a really tired 2.3 its had a knock for a while now. i think the lucas oil killed it. i tried it for the first time last week. had 65 psi of oil but i think its goobered up one of my valves and it stuck and the piston hit it. sounds like a slow wrx now. lol. and chvlfrk. the front springs are good vith a 350? even though i have a 4 litteral banger now actually more of a 3 banger
thanks

YES, both our trucks were 4cyl, 5spds originally!

Do what I did----put it in the "metamorphosis" category:headbang: That way, what-eeever you do to the vehicle is legal:icon_rofl: Scarey, but legal

Now you guys got me thinkin:icon_confused:------I'll make my project a Hybrid:headbang:------The 300/350 sbc is going under the hood to freak people out:icon_surprised: & the rebuilt 2.9L is going in the bed connected to a transfer case for improved gas mileage:icon_hornsup:This oughta get em off your back Blackwidow67 :icon_rofl: And hang in there on your project--show lotta pic's:cool:

thanks doorgunner. my 2.3 bit the shizdit. turns out i blew the piston apart, then the chunks locked my oil pump up so it has no oil pressure. so now a 350 is a must. buts its not gonna be no stock 350. hehehehehehe

A stock 350sbc would have plenty of power/torque, but I know what you mean :headbang:( so that's why I put a 650cmf/4barrel$245, medium-rise alum. intake$125, high rpm distributor$65, & block-hugger headers$65.) I figure that's good for 90 more h.p.:icon_surprised:. I didn't want anything impressive & I didn't need or want to open up the block because it's only got 30,000mi. & I wanted it as a daily driver. That's about the most I could do without getting into the piggy bank(emergency fund) or owning a gas station. The th700 aod oughta help too..

so it turns out its not a bent valve on my 2.3, it blew the piston apart, then the pieces locked my oil pump up and now its got no oil pressure. jeez man. i was hoping to get the winter outta it. oh well. now im forced to do the 350.

Yep, my 2.9L was doin pretty good, but after sittin up 3 months, the left head got 1 loow cylinder & thr right head got grreen stuff squirting out the head gasket:annoyed:(it didn't make it to the spring either). So I guess we'll have to live with a "chebby"(like one of the guys said) & deal with that extra 100 horses:icon_rofl: I still wanna re-work the heads on the 2.9L & get it screamin like a wild hyenna again:3gears:

Just thought I'd stir the pot a little.....

A turbo ford 2.3 is magnitudes easier than any V8 swap, costs the same or less than said swap, and will easily make stock SBC/351 power and torque (they came from the factory pretty equivalent to a 305). Mind you it won't have the same torque at anything less than 2000 RPM, but that's good if you plan on keeping the 7.5 out back. Once the turbo kicks in hang on tight. You can do fuel and airflow mods and crank up the boost pretty cheap too. 400-500 hp is not unreasonable and very doable with the stock bottom end.

Now I say it's easy cause I'm an EFI guy and scared of vacuum lines (not really), but if your a carb guy and scared of wires, this swap probably isn't for you.

i dont think a turbo 4 cyl gasser is going to comfortably cruise this around in 3 feet of snow.

with a full load of fuel, 3 passengers and fishing gear it weighs over 6300 pounds:icon_rofl:

it would be a short life for a 4 wheezer, but the 4 wheezer would move it along with 513 gears i am sure. but i need to go to 350 gears from my current 410s for the desel to work where it needs to be with 33 inch tires.

imagine a turbo on the 6.5....wont be long.

yeah i starting ripping the engine apart for the swap. im gonna be taking alot of pictures and maybe do a right up on it when im done. thanks to everyone for your input. but this threads not done yet. anybody who still has any recommendations on how to do this swap, and i swear if i hear one more guy tell me to put a 302 in it, im gonna bust a ball, then please send me your ideas. you can never learn enough before rippin the friggin engine out. also im gonna rip the head apart to see the carnage of the pison. wahahahahahahah. and if any one needs any parts from the 2.3, tk 4 speed manual, clutch slave, master, pedals, all that, drop me a pm, its all the in the for sale forum.
