Well I just got back from picking this motor up for my Ranger. It's a 2.5 and mine has a 2.3.

Everything appears to be exactly the same with the exception of the exhaust manifold. My 2.3 has factory headers and this 2.5 has an actual manifold. Will the headers from my 2.3 work on this engine? Thanks

Allen

Ok, well now that I have the engine on the stand I took a couple better pics of it:

On my old tubular headers there's no 02-sensor like in the pic. I should be ok with this swap right? I know someone else here has done this swap before so feel free to chime in...haha

Essentially from what I understand they are exactly the same block with some internal differences only. I grabbed the computer from the guy though nontheless just incase. Later.

without the o2 its going to pick that up i would keep it as is, and its a header only one...but yeah if you use the new ecu keep the header on it with the o2

You have an O2 sensor for sure. It might be right after the header though, I can't remember for sure. I changed mine out last year and found it easier to get at it from underneath. Install your header, you should have no issues.

That is a header, individual runners into a common collector. The only difference in this and the other header would be in weight. The performance would be the same. Although it should fit, it's not worth the effort to change IMO in this application. :) shady

Well let me clarify a little I guess. I currently have two 02-sensors in my Ranger but neither one is in the header as the picture of the 2.5 shows. I have one right before and one right after the cat.

I think I'm going to go ahead and swap out the headers because the earlier one seems to be less restrictive. I found an old pic of it:

Thanks.

Cool. I'm thinking of a 2.5 swap.

Ok, well I'm probably going to do the swap next weekend because I just did'nt have enough time this weekend. Before I pop the new motor in however I think I'm going to replace the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and rear main seal.

I'll be sure to post up progress pics and any snags I may encounter along the way for anyone else attempting this swap.

I am laughing so hard right now.........When DaveR came down last year and we put in the P&P head he did we had a little trouble. When we were putting everything back together we couldn't get the outlet from the water pump to quit leaking. It was driving us both nuts and we just wanted to get the damn thing back together and go for a drive. The design had Dave scratching his head and I figured it was just my luck, something was FUBARED past closing time at the auto parts store LOL. Turns out that stupid O-ring, that is very clear in your last pic Allen, had fallen on the floor. Sometimes it is the little things that really set you back, make you swear up and down, throw tools and when it's all over laugh at yourself. Just wanted to share................

Anyone know why Ford changed the design on the header? Are the pimaries open like on the older style or do they merge as they pass each other?

James

just use your 95 stuff,it will be fine.Tubular header is good for a few more hp and saves a bunch of weight off the front. You can get some better flow and a few more hp by cutting the bell off the header and fabricating a new down pipe with a flat mating surface and bolt direct to the header, use a 2 1/2 inch down pipe.Cut your O2 sensor bung off your old pipe and weld on your new pipe.
