just picked up a 2.3 and its the dura spark with the 8 plugs can i put a distributer on there and ony run 4?

you get a stronger spark with the DIS system, and it's more reliable than the TFI setup used before that...

you probably can, but it pretty much does its own thing and just works, adjusting the timing is overrated, the curve in the ECM for the DIS ignition is plenty sufficient.

now if you are talking about setting up the engine for something else and going carbed or something, I believe the distributor would hit the intake manifold if I remember right, and an older carbed manifold won't match up to the 8 plug head.

I'm running DIS on 4 plugs on my '86 thunderbird turbo coupe engine, I purposly went this route to avoid the TFI that was on the '86 engine

what the dis? and the reason im not running the dura spark s because i dont have the electical for it in the truck im putting the engine in so i just want to put a normal distibuter on and a normal intake, will that work?

what year 2.3 did you get?What are you putting it in? Wanting to run carb or EFI?

the truck im putting it in is an 88 fuelinjection and the engine is an 88 to and its fi to i just want to know if i can add the distributer and get rid of dura spark

if it's a dual plug, it has to be an '89

DIS is Distributorless Ignition System, Duraspark is the term for the 70's ford ignition system, after that they changed to the TFI which is Thick Film Ignition which was used on the 2.3L from '83 to '88
