Got her for 2600. 97 4.0 4x4 5spd with 31s and 3.27 gears. Gets 11 MPG

Looks good but dang my bronco gets better mpg and it has 33's with 3.73 gearing and 3 speed trans.:dntknw:

nice truck, but you should look into a tune-up, you should be getting more like 16mpg in that ranger, with my ranger stock i got up to 20mpg average.. but a regular average was more like 17mpg. with 29" tires..

now with 33s and 4.56s i get about 13-15 max.

Thanks guys. Ya this weekend im going to change the spark plugs, wires and coil pack. Would you guys recommend anything else?

Do the rest of the tune up while you're there. Fuel filter, air filter and an oil and filter change as well couldn't hurt. I agree with the others, your mileage should be better. I've got the same year and engine with an automatic and a lift and 33s and I still get around 19mpg around town.

is the speedometer accurate? if not, you're probably already getting 20% or so better mileage... check the door for the stock tire size and compare that to what it has now.

SEXY! ya do a tune up, hit all the basics: plugs, plug wires, coil, airfilter, fuel filter, oil change, injector cleaner, and you should see the mpg pick up.

Any Plans!?

I just got the oil done and on saturday im doing all the other stuff. My plans are to turn it into a prerunner with extended dana 35 beams that way I can go fast and still have 4x4. The truck had 235/75/15s on it stock. I had another 97 4.0 5spd but was 2wd with stock tires and 373 and I used to see 23 MPG on the freeway. I really appreciate the help guys

You don't have to replace the coil pack. It's not a wear item. Save yourself $100+

Nice truck, but 3.27 gears :bad: Probably a large contribution to your crappy millage.

my supercab, automatic, had 3.27s stock--and i was able to get 20mpg, 3-4 times, but i had to pussyfoot it EVERYWHERE, for the ENTIRE tank.

but usually i couldn't stay out of it, and 16-17mpg was my overall average while stock, (i used to keep track of it in excel, for hahas) :icon_twisted:

i even daily drove it for a year with 33" pro comp mts :nono: poooor tranny.

4.56s now though! :3gears:

i'd do the coil pack, it is a wear out item I changed it on my old ranger, dramatic difference in how my vehicle ran, then again i did have over 265k's on it...
