I just joined this site because I am looking for a transmission for my 1990 Ford Ranger (V6, 2.9 L, 2WD, Fuel Injected) I have looked everywhere and can't find a used one. The only one I have found was refurbished for around $900. I don't have that kind of money to spend ATM so was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I live in central Florida and was wondering if anyone living in that area had any ideas. Thanks.

$900 for a rebuilt transmission is a steal...that is if it was done correctly. Usually these things are $2k+.

Unless someone is parting out a Ranger your odds of finding a cheap good one are pretty slim. I'd start watching craigslist for one that's been wrecked and being parted out.

I had to get one for my 89 B2. I was able to get a rebuilt tranny with a warranty from a place in north Florida. Man Trans was the name. I think mine ended up being around $700 with the core. They were selling one on eBay, checked out the company and ended up driving down there and swapping mine out. Awesome to deal with and probably closer to you than it was for me!

I'd agree with buying one being parted out or just look for an old Ranger or BII for sale with that engine/transmission.

I still see them for sale in Canada quite often and they are usually pretty cheap. You can sell the parts you don't need yourself or simply scrap it...you'd probably get $300 or better just for the scrap.
