Just for the info..... Leaky valve covers.

Well a couple months ago a buddy and I put new heads on the 4.0 in my 98' ranger. Its been running good, with a few issues here and there since. One of those issues was leaky valve covers. So today I finally decided to figure out why they were leaking and fix them. Well I figured out why, there was some foreign material in the drivers side gasket that had apparently cut the corner. Thought I would share this with you guys with the warning just make sure there's nothing in between your gaskets, any where......

good info. out of curiosity, where did you get your gaskets? My old ranger with a 2.9 had the worst problem with leaky valve cover gaskets. I got some from ford and the issue cleared up. i *think* there metal pins in the gasket to prevent the gasket from getting over tightened. or maybe that was a oil pan gasket??.. i don't recall now.

I got them from kenowa auto. Theyre the felpro gaskets. Which I've never had an issue with before. They did have to little metal rings so I'm sure that didn't help. I ended up getting the felpro rubber gaskets. Those seem to be holding up good for now.

Just finished putting new valve cover gaskets on my 95 4.0. Had to replace the head gaskets a few months ago and put the same cheap cork fel pro valve cover gaskets on. They have leaked on the driver side, in exactly the same spot as yours, but mine was most likely due to a bolt that either worked loose or I missed. Replaced them today with the fel pro rubber gaskets. Hopefully my oil leak is fixed.

I forgot to update since I changed mine. No leaks that I can tell as of yet.
