Just dies...

How's it going guys. I picked up an 88 Bronco II a few weeks ago. Shes been giving me hell lately and wondering if you guys can help me out. While driving, it likes to just cut out. There's no misfire or anything, no specific conditions it does it, just dies. Here's the kicker, sometimes while the RPM is dropping, it drops down to idle, stays, and then it picks right back up like nothing happened yet hitting the gas as it's dropping doesn't do anything. And other times it just completely cuts out and you have to start it up again. Starting after a hot soak also gives me a few problems. It does the initial fire up fine, but instead of dropping to idle or near idle, it dies. It has a known good, relocated, TFI module. Any help would be appreciated.

I am interested to as my '89 does the same thing, I just replaced the TFI Module last week and plugs and wires as well. Does yours fall on its face sometimes when you step on it? Mine is acting like it is flooding itself and you have to ease into it to keep it accelerating. I hope. Its yours throwing codes? mine threw nothing.

Nope. No codes or anything. Mine happens when cruising at constant speed and RPM, when I have to give it a little more gas, pretty much whenever it damn well pleases. Sometimes it'll go a good 50mi running perfect and sometimes I'll barely make it one without it dying again

not sure if those had the O2 sensor but my ranger did the same thing and that was mostly the problem. (the other half, was my rusty gas tank)

The 89 has an O2 mine is brand spankin new. But yours is doing the exact same deal I think. Mine ran great for two days about about 120 miles and then yesterday on my way to work when I would step into it it didn't have as much power and you could hear it in the engine that it was getting to much fuel, then last night when I stepped into it it fell on its face and then it finally killed and would not restart at all.

When it dies and won't start, check for spark and fuel pressure.

Carry a spare spark plug for that. Should be a strong spray from the schraeder valve on the fuel rail, even when key off. Use a rag.

I will check that tomorrow on mine. Would Faulty MAP Sensor cause a no start condition?

Yeah I'm probably going to dig into it tomorrow too. Classes killed me today. I'll post up thoughts/results when I'm done.
