Hello!!

I just purchased a 05 Ranger and I have a small problem. The fan is constantly running. Even when I cold start, the fan turns on. Can someone point me in the right direction of how to fix this? Is it a sensor gone bad?

Also, I am looking for an online manual that I can download (free preferably). Thanks and here is a pic of my truck!

From what I was told by another FORD forum, it is normal. That is a huge sigh of relief. I didnt feel like going back to the dealer. I still find it odd that it is always on.

Thanks for the help guys and not bashing me for bein a newb. I have been on forums for years and the search button is no help. Thanks!!!

Sorry for the confusion. It only runs when the motor is on. But it is always on while the truck is on. Glad to hear that it is normal.

Yes, that is normal.

That is a mechanical fan, it will always be moving when the engine is running, designed that way. :D

Second the comment by BlackBII - that my friend is a belt driven fan. When the engine is running there is a belt down there (which will chew off your fingers by the way) that is connected to pulleys on the engine crankshaft and accessories which also turns the fan... A bit old fashioned perhaps but indeed how such things have worked for decades... In your truck, the fan should spin whenever the engine is running - the problem would be if it did not spin...

Sweet.

Anyone know were I can get an online PDF manual?

I'm surprised you're conscious of it running, from inside the cab anyway. Is it NOISY, or is the WATER PUMP it's attached to NOISY? *That* would be a definite problem.

PS: Online PDF manual? We wish. That would be copyright piracy, and the (formerly) powerful Helm Publications would legally body-slam anyone involved. But hey, maybe some obscure bit torrent or usenet posting somewhere in Lower Slobovia has one. Ebay best bet.

You can buy a CD with the entire set of Ford manuals for a given year for quite cheap online - I'll see if I can find the link for where I got mine. Of course there are always Chilton and Haynes manuals as well...

Yea, several motorcycle forums have places were you can get the PDF for free. Didnt know if it was the same here. Thanks anyway though:icon_cheers:
