Hi all, I just joined up a couple days ago. A family friend sold me his base-model 1998 Ranger; 86,000 miles, 2.5 4-banger, 5-speed, and rear wheel drive. It's a stripper for sure (no tilt steering? whaa??), but this guy takes meticulous care of his cars, so that absolves a lot of sin :) Despite living all its life in the Rust Belt, I still haven't found any body rust!

I'd like to improve the audio (already trawling through Tempe's threads!) and eventually put on a nice suspension and take it autocrossing a bit.

No tilt steering? are you sure???????? =O

No tilt steering? Our '94 b2300 had no POWER steering... or headliner. Talk about stripped down, lol. Nice truck! :icon_thumby:

Welcome! That truck looks and sounds just like the '98' I had, right down to that blue stripe. Only thing I didn't like about it was the 3.45 gearing, great in town but could fall on it's face on the interstate going into a wind. Good luck and enjoy the site.

my 98 has the "XLT" badge and is the 2.5L 5speed manual, no tilt steering, just had radio and cassete and carpet floors. Trust me friend if that truck was take care of as well as your friend says then you've got a good one. My 98 has over 200K+ miles on it and all i've done to it is a timing belt, plugs and wires at 198000miles and the other regular maintenance its stock. In my opinion it is one durable truck i haven't even had to touch the brake system since january of 2000 lol and it is my daily driver/ do what ever i want to with truck.... i'd drive my truck to the end of the world with no worries. Bottom line i think you got a great truck there and would say at 86,000 miles it's just getting broke in.
