hey guys just got a couple small quistinos before putting my trans in..some one told me to blow out the cooler lines before bolting the new tranny up should i do this?..also should i change the trans filter while i have the trans up..and this is my first tranny job..is there anyhting i should know..i heard the torque converter has to be put in a certain way.the converter is on the trans when i got it..can i just put the tranny on there and bolt it up?
thanks
ryan

yes, blow out the tranny cooler, but blow it out the opposite way the fluid flows. but dont go using 120lbs of shop air, turn it down to around 50psi.little short blasts. you dont want to "ballon" the cooler.
You can even squirt some brake cleaner in the cooler to help flush it out.OR they even make some stuff in a can thats just for this...kinda looks like a can of fix a flat...but its from flushing tranny coolers and lines.

yes, make sure you get the TQ conveter seated all the way down. I belive on a ranger you will hear feel 3 "clicks".....been along time since I did a ranger auto.

If its a new or rebuilt tranny, I wold think they would have changed the filter....but if its a used one, yes I would change the filter.

so do i take the converter out of the trans so i can get it seated in the flywheel all the way?
thank you
ryan

only if you want to fubar the pump.
if its used, pull the pan off and change the filter, also it wouldnt be a bad idea to change the seal behind the converter.
take the converter out of the tranny and turn it upside down in a drain pan or bucket,it will take a while to drain.put a qt or 2 of new fluid back in it.

easy way to seat it back in the trans. is to turn it up on its end, lube the converter shaft with fresh fluid, set it in the housing and start slowly spinning it till it seats it self.it will be 3 drops into the bell.
thats the way ive always done it and havent had any problems.if iam doing it wrong iam sure we both will hear about it..............lol.
