i have a 1993 ranger 4.0 4x4, on my wway to work last week all of a sudden it felt like i was pulling a huge ass load, but only randomly. then turned radio down and all of a sudden it started miss firing. could not even give it more then half throttle in 5th gear. almost made it to work and temp spiked up and miss fired non stop, and deff not running on all cylinders but no coolant in oil and no ticking in the engine.... the thing is just about a year ago i had the intake gasket replaced and the temp has always ran warmer and bounced around and would miss fire after leavin it off... ten min later i would start it up and it would miss for about 20 seconds then run fine. i towed truck home and have not had any time to tear it apart to find out what is wrong but i did start it up and feels like running off of like 5 or 4 cylinders. any ideas? please help! if motor is toast i have a 5.0 and c4 trans ready to put in, but i had just put a brand new built trans and stage 3 clutch in it aa week before this engine shit happened
Put in the 5.0 lol.
Make sure it's not something simple like an intake leak or something coming loose(sucking air). Being someone replaced a gasket on top do a physical check making sure everything is tight and then start it and lightly spray carb cleaner around the gasket and the intake if the idle goes up that's your problem spot(crack or gasket pushed in or out). If it's that bad and there's no coolant in oil or coming out the exhaust sounds like a gasket, crack somewhere or a wire off or rubbed through.
