OK I have a 99 ranger sport stepside I really want too swap the Jeeps straight 6 into my truck I'm new to this so I don't know much about this idea what I need to know is can it be done what do I need to change with it and how hard it is and will the mounts match up or is custom welding come into play

Well...where to start..if do not have welding and fab skills this job is going to get expensive. You will need the engine and transmission, transfer case, and computer from t the Jeep as well as the wiring harness. You will need a custom drive shaft.

The inline 6 will be several inches longer than any stock engine the Ranger ever had, and you probably will need to move the radiator and support forward to shoehorn it in.

All of your mounts for the Jeep components will need to be fabricated.

You will need space to work on the Ranger while doing this. Plan on being without use of the truck for at least a few months, and be aware of any neighbors that might get their knickers in a twist about your truck or any parts vehicles sitting in your yard

If you do have the skills, parts, space and time to do this project do create a build thread for it and keep us supplied with pictures :)

Tried it, and like you, I was new. I do not recommend it. That swap is in the advanced category. Drive the truck first, a lot. Use it for what you want to use it for (within reason), and make notes on what you'd change and see if you can work around it with what you currently have. This will take months, in the mean time, start saving for mods. You'd be surprised how capable a stock truck is.

Short list to consider as first mods:

Budget lift and tires.
Some sort of traction aid (I.E. lunch box locker, if you search you'll find plenty on this site)
Make friends, listen and learn.

(I can only assume you're swapping this for an offroad truck, as there's no reason not to go with a V8 from the performance aspect)

But this is no way a beginners project. Trust me. It sucks that so many of us are going to be apprehensive to help, but I could write pages upon pages upon pages of what you'd need to do and how to do it. I really don't have the time to donate.

And just to be clear I'm not talking completely out of my rear end here, gaze upon these:

And yes, this was one of my first projects, and that IS a Jeep 4.0L. I gave up on it, there is a 302 V8 in it currently. Which was challenging enough on it's own, and that's the easy swap.

what are your goals? do you want to use the jeep axle as well? is the currnt 99 chasis a 2wd or 4wd?

the 99 chassis can be easier for this.

the ttb chasssis does not lend itself to this setup easily.

if you want to use the 2wd sla chassis and convert it to 4x4 with jeep parts, then this wont be a bad swap at all.

if you want to keep a stock sla or ttb 4x4 chassis front axle setup...and make it look like it left ford that way...it will suck to do.
