JB-weld a carrier?

Yeah I'm quite familiar with babbit >:C... Anyway, I just don't think that I would trust lead or JB. Just too brittle and just not substanital enough. I would go for the whole spool or just sink a couple welding rods into it.

ya,lead's a poor second choice to welding.a properly welded diff will hold up to all the abuse you can throw at it.i've probably done about 100 anyway,i gave a pretty good deal to guys that brought me the bare carrier.

Yeah, I pretty much wasn't willing to trust it unless someone came out and said they had done it, and ran it for a while, without issues... Its a 7.5" rear, so I dont particularly care about it being damaged (especially considering my truck probably gets 5000 km in a year, at best) but at the same time, an open diff is better than one clogged up with scraps of epoxy and shit.

I have two friends who weld for a living, they only use MIG for work. Is MIG good for welding a carrier? Does ARC have advantages over MIG for this sort of thing? Im new to welding, dont really know the details...

Just because you have a brain fart doesn't mean you have to turn it into a post. There's a thing called Google that will (sometimes) save you from looking like an idiot.

Seriously, think about it. You'd need about a quart of JB Weld<------not cheap. Then you'd have to either pour in stages and let it set or do one big pour and let it set for a week or so. Either way, you're out a bunch of money and time for sub par results. Wouldn't it be easier to pay someone $20 to weld it up for you?

It's the internet man, there are millions of stupid people out there. Search stuff and laugh at their embarrassment instead of creating your own.

either one is good, the prep and method are more important than the type of welder used.since this question comes up so much i should put together a demonstration at some point.

i dont see why not, i hot glued some fenders on years ago and they're still holding

j/k, yeah man i'm with everyone else, bad idea

To hell with google. I can waste my time searching through pages upon pages of irrelevant garbage, or I can just post here and get a response from people who are knowledgeable and I deem trustworthy.
Of course there are millions of stupid people out there... If there is 330 million Americans, and 1 in 4 is retarded (according to South Park. lol) thats 82.5 million idiots, just in the USA.

Time is no issue. I have a spare rear axle assembly that I will be pulling the carrier from, so I can weld it, then put it into my truck to replace the stock L/S garbage in there now. (Other carrier is open, Gwaii told me they are better to weld.)

Quite honestly, I agree with ThatGuy. It's to the point, and I completely agree with him.

We tell people to use the Search function on TRS all the time; the same rule can be applied to Google.

Also, please never reference South Park as a credible source for ANYTHING. This same thing applies to Wikipedia. And "retarded" is not the equivalent of an "idiot."

South Park comment was a joke. You all take yourselves way too seriously. And in the context, retard and idiot ARE the same thing, because they are both being used as slang terms to refer to stupid people.

Also, have YOU tried googling it?
It comes up with hits about RC cars, bicycles, and AK47s. Not exactly relevant.

retard and idiot ARE NOT the same thing......obama is an idiot, but i'm 60% sure he isnt retarded

i wouldn't even want jb weld on a spare tire carrier. it takes tons of cleaning and prep-work to adhere.....and even then it is still barely adhered. you see the display on the parts-store counter of a glob of jb weld that must be from 6 tubes of the stuff with a 5/8" nut pretty much buried in it. yeah that won't go anywhere unless you threaded a bolt into the nut and applied some sideways leverage. and that nut will break right out

the real world rarely sees enough situations where jb weld is anything but a temperary fix.....that still chips off

Its all about context. By definition, no they arn't. By definition, the word retard has nothing to do with people, it means slowing down, or to slow down... only in slang does it apply to people. And thats the wonders of slang, words often have multiple meanings. Depending where you go, dope can refer to weed, cocaine, or heroine, just as retard can mean someone who is mentally disabled, or someone who is just stupid.

And what makes Obama an idiot? Hes the president of the most powerful country in the world. Hell of a lot more than I expect to become.
