The rest of my family has gotten along quite well with their GM's, they seem to be just as reliable as my F-150.

A rubber band powered Yugo would be more reliable than my Ranger, although I won't pin that on Ford but the previous owner.


About body damage, the body shop at the dealership my brother works at just put a new frame under a brand new Trailblazer after it hit a deer...

put a new frame???? as in a new chassis? you hit a deer and you need a whole new chassis aka frame rails? thats crazy. i aim for them in my ex. and tha thing needed a new chassis. am i missing something here?

I used to have a chevy. A 1987 C20 4x4. One hell of a truck, but I still prefer my Ranger.

Not because it's a Ford, but because it's comfy, gets good mpg, easy to work on, been pretty reliable, and maneuvers almost like a large car.

If you like Chevy, go ahead. I almost bought a Cavalier instead of my Ranger, and I'm still thinking about getting one.

Yeah, they pulled the body off and got a new frame and bumper for it. The deer was sleeping in the road and jumped up right before it got hit so the bumper took 100% of the impact and crumpled the frame.

Usually the front sheetmetal takes the hit and bumper gets a passing blow, but not that time.

These were just a few of the problems my dad had with his 2001 blazer with the 4.3 v6 which is without doubt the worst v6 ever made the two that we have owned suck majorly. so my dad traded it in for a 08 4cyl escape and they gave him what he owed on it and the escape is amazing

Weird. I drove a 99 Blazer with the 4.3 and my dad had, and still has, an 02 S-10 with the 4.3 as well. Reliable motor, has never caused any problems in itself. Only issues coming from leaky gaskets (not unusual for high mileage engines) and arcing spark plug wires cause I was a dumbass during my first tune up. The GM Vortec line of engines are great motors and have been around for a long time.

As to the OP, quit trying to start crap, nobody is going to flame you for "brand disloyalment" or whatever you're trying to go after. Nobody cares. You want a chevy? Cool. Good for you. The only thing you'll get flamed for (that is if anybody cares enough to do it) is trying to start crap when it's not necessary.

Regarding the new frame on the Blazer, that's not too surprising. The way they make frames nowadays to absorb energy instead of transferring it to the occupant, a high-energy impact involving a deer would make it unusable. The Fords used to have a big problem with this because they integrated the crumple zones right into the main frame (the mid-90's generation). Now, as I understand it, the crumple zone is a bolt on piece for the Ford trucks. This is because the insurance companies will not allow body shops to weld on a frame because of liability issues. If the repair company lays a bad weld, the insurance company would be liable for any injuries resulting from a failed weld. So, to reduce the liability, they just replace the frame. And quite frankly, I like that practice. Instead of gambling my health on a bad part just to save a few dollars, the companies know it saves money in the long run to keep me safe from someone elses potential neglect.

Going back to the Blazer, the impact of a deer could cause serious frame damage, and depending on the extent of the damage, it might be either a) safer or b) cheaper to replace rather then repair. If the frame stretcher requires too many man-hours to complete the repair, the cost of the part + labor to R&R the body might be cheaper.

My dad works for a major insurance company, and through his extensive training in this area, I've learned through the years that many things that might seem funny can be explained from a differnt point of view.

I don't mind a little damage, but tens of thousands over hitting a 150lb critter at highway speed is rediculous. And now the car is next to worthless, who wants a 2007 Trailblazer that is on its second frame?
