This would be good for the Preppers...perfect tool for their "bug- out bag. I never knew this could even be done.

Whether it can be reliably done or not, we should look back to our original bug-outers. Like Daniel Boone. Your rifle came with a bullet mold. The Pennsylvania Rifle, or whatever name you want to call it. A friggin 22 isn't a bug-out gun. Zombies can catch the bullets in their hands and throw them back. I'll bet Daniel Boone pasted a lot of Zombies with his American rifle, the black powder he crushed up in his mortar and pestle, and his campfire-casted bullets.

I have never done it but I do have a bullet mold for my '44's. Still need caps and powder though.

Mr Boone had a flintlock, I ain't that tough yet.

On the plus side wheel weights melt down for decent bullets and are very available.

ok now this is for a .22, you can still buy a box of 500 for $20-25. That's pretty cheap for how much ammo you get. I think you would be spending too much time with casting, measuring, cleaning loading than what its worth. Have you ever shot a .22 with a semi or fully automatic trigger? those aren't the shells you want to me making yourself. lets say for a 10 round clip on a semi automatic rifle lasts about 4 seconds and you spent how many hours making those 10 rounds? seems pretty pointless and more like something you'd never use. Seems like too much work for little reward.

I have a cap and ball revolver--a brass 1851 Navy. It's fun, but a serious pain in the ass. Black powder is horrifying. It is so damn dirty that it takes hours to clean the gun. You don't just punch the bore--you take the whole thing apart, take the nipples out of the cylinder, and it grows soot as you scrub.

Bought a Ruger black powder pistol back in the late 70s, took it a whole year to arrive. Shot it a few times and got really tired of taking it in the shower with me. Sold it soon after.

Blackpowder residue melts in hot water with soap, nothing to it as long as you hit it when it is fresh. Wait a day or two and it can be a fight. Use smokeless powder solvent and it turns to tar.

I have a cheap $10 Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner, I strip cylinder and put anything that fits in there with hot soapy water and let it run while I clean the rest of it. Nipples, cylinder and cylinder pin (for my Remington) are well on their way to being clean by the time I get back to it.
