My credo
Work hard and play harder
Well a couple months ago my grandfather, 88 yrs old, bought a 03 4.0 2wd Extended cab stepside. Nice truck.

He has 1 small problem though. He has a hard time seeing the gauges. I know exactly why too. His gauge face is silver w/ black numbers with the running lights off. He has no problems with the running lights on but he does not want to run with the lights on all the time. So my thing is this, he likes mine, white faced, and I am curious to know if they made a white face for the XLT at all. I know the Sport Trac swap can be done but I will go that route as a last resort. Hell even a black face with white numbers is acceptable.

He also helped me make a final decision on what I want to do with my interior, switch to stock buckets w/ the center console. :icon_thumby:

I have a black face gauge cluster with no Tach from a 4 banger ranger you'd be welcome to have for the cost of shipping assuming I can find it.

His has a tach. I found some white overlays on eBay for a shade over $20.

You'd be best to go with overlays. That late in production if you replace the cluster you will need to get it programmed, if it has PATS it will need a parameter reset and all the keys reprogrammed. Big mess to do on your own.

Thank you for making my mind up.

Glad I could help.

I thought 2003 was the LAST year of a mechanical ODO/old style cluster?

adsm...............good going!

In 98 you could plug and play the cluster but if you had PATS you still needed a parameter reset and all the keys redone.

I'm pretty sure by 2001 the cluster knew the VIN, even with the mechanical odometer. If the cluster has the wrong VIN it will mess with the ABS module.
