i have a 1999 ford ranger 3.0 v6 and i just replaced the belts and the altnater and it still squeaks PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

try the idler pulley or tensioner. If it sounds like its coming from the back you've got a bad cam syncronizer or cam position sensor. Hope for the sensor.

Take the belt off and start her up for a minute of so.. If the squeaks STOPPED, getcha a new idler and tensioner.. Them things have the same bearings in them as your roller skates! There is where 99% of the underhood squeaks come from. AND for sure replace them both at the same time.

And if it still sqeaks with the belt off, get a new syncronizer shaft installed ASAP.:icon_thumby:

My vote is Tensioner. I had replaced the serpentine belt on my truck and all summer it squeaked. Finally when i got the transmission flushed in August my mechanic was kind enough to point out what it was. I figured it was that but my dad swore it was just the new belt breaking it's self in. Either way i would say tensioner or idler pulley.

ditto

My 99 3.0 has had the same problem. My truck only has 38k on it and is on it's 3rd belt. I can NOT locate where the squeal/sqeak(sqeek... sp?) is comming from even with mechanics stethiscope. had the same problem with my 94 4.0, but it was obviously the tensioner bearing. Ironically I could NOT find a new tensioner pully for the 4.0 anywhere. The ones listed were all too small. I had the parts people show me every 94 ford tensioner thay had & none were the right one. I eventually ended up having to press a new bearing into the old pully. ...THEN I get the 1999 3.0, and the squeeling starts. I check the tensioner pully, and would you believe it'sthe same one - that I couldn't find - for the 4.0. However, on the 3.0 thats not the problem. everything on this damn truck sqeaks. I bet i've used 5 gallons of penetrating oil w/ no improvement.

If your cam sync isn't the problem then it's more than likely that your tensioner is out of alignment, which is a common problem with the Ranger 3.0. Put a straight edge on the tensioner pulley and compare it to the crank pulley... if it's out of alignment then you can either shim your tensioner into alignment, or else buy a new tensioner. But be aware that a new tensioner doesn't guaranty proper alignment... you should check the new tensioner for alignment after it's installed.

Some Rangers come from the factory with different diameter idler and tensioner pulleys, which makes the serp belt much too tight, which pulls the poorly designed tensioner out of alignment. Installing the smaller diameter pulleys
on both the tensioner and idler gives the serp belt some slack and then it won't pull quite so hard on the tensioner.
