I have a 1990 Ranger 4x4 Auto with as 4.0. It is currently having issues. sometimes when I start it up for the first time that day it doesn't start or it acts like it has a lack of fuel and sometimes requires me to pump the gas pedal once or twice to get it to catch. Once it is started usually it runs good but it wont rev over 3k rpm's. Lately when I shut it off after driving it for approx 30 to 40 minutes and let it sit for over 20 minutes and I try to start it, it has a problem starting and when it does it wont rev for the first few minutes. When it has an issue after starting up it is usually that it idles so low that it dies unless you keep your foot on the gas till it warms up then runs good.
It is currently throwing a check engine light, I have tried a basic code reader and I couldn't get any codes thrown. I took it to a shop and they tried to read the codes with a Snap on code reader and they kept getting a snap throttle error(?) before it would read the codes, any ideas on that?
I have put new plugs, wires, and air filter in to ensure it wasn't anything simple. I am going to clean the MAS sensor and check the catalytic converters to make sure they're not clogged. Does anyone have any ideas short of start replacing the fuel injection parts till it fixes itself?
Also when it has issues it is not consistent like today it will do something (like fight to stay running) and I will do nothing to it and leave it sit over night and tomorrow it will work fine. Im running out of ideas
