"Rebuildable" can cover a lot of different conditions. If it's in good shape, it's probably worth the drive, but if it's going to require tons of time/money at the machine shop to make it decent before you even start rebuilding the thing, then I'd stay away.

You can probably get a used, running Expo 5.0 with the desirable GT40P stuff for just a couple hundred, and have a better starting point, or drop in candidate.

+1

Everything can be rebuilt, for a price.

Also note that it is a mid 70's 302. They started getting really anemic as far as power is concerned in the mid 70's. I would look for early 70's and older or 85 and newer.

"Rebuildable" is definitely a term that might be thrown out by sellers without meaning a whole lot, eg: "great potential rat rod" means its rusty and (hopefully) most of body and frame are there.

Rebuildable should mean literally that there are no holes or cracks in the block/heads and that cylinder wear is such that a (max) 0.040 overbore is feasible to bring things back into buildable condition. Maybe the crank journals and throws can be ground true (within specs). No guarantees on "replaceable" parts like rods, cam, valves etc etc, and you are def looking at replacing eg: pistons, rings, gaskets, bearings seals etc etc and prob getting valves ground and heads planed. You get this much into an engine you will want to replace oil pump, water pump, thermostat, plugs, wires, timing chain/sprockets, cam/followers etc etc

On the other hand, it is free and seller seems attached to it - wants it to go to a good home - maybe it isn't a total hunk of junk. Or you may end up with a boat anchor in your garage instead of his!

Dunno what your plans/budget are. You may want to lay hands on a runner (or good prospect) from a wrecker, do your build, then, if its all you hoped for, consider building an engine for the long run.
