Ok long story short.
2008 Sport 3.0L V6 auto
Had it since new, looked after it.

Clock wise direction - CWD
Counter Clock wise direction - CCWD

This has been an issue since day one.

So I understand that the AC turns on when the defrost is on so thats the last two functions on CWD and of course the last two on the CCWD but other then that the AC should not be on at all.
I my truck, for some reason the AC seems to be on at all the functions on the CWD. The reason I say this is because the first two functions on the CWD the air comes out chilled and I can feel the truck bog down a little and if I put it to the first point on the CCWD its just blowing in outside air temp.

I have told the dealship this a number of times and nothing ever gets done or even looked at I think.... they seem to think I am out to lunch and that this is not even possible.... is it???

It's normal, intended operation.

Here is the D+O (Description and Operation) section of the workshop manual pertaining to the setting to the right of "OFF".

Ford WSM said:
PANEL/FLOOR

When PANEL/FLOOR is selected:

•The air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
•The panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct and the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
•The heater control valve is at no vacuum, allowing the flow of hot coolant to the heater core. Blended air temperature is available.
•The A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
•The blower motor is ON.
FLOOR

When FLOOR is selected:

•The air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
•The panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
•The heater control valve is at no vacuum, allowing the flow of hot coolant to the heater core. Blended air temperature is available.
•The temperature can be adjusted to heat the air, but the air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
•The A/C compressor will not operate.
•The blower motor is ON.
FLOOR/DEFROST

When FLOOR/DEFROST is selected:

•The air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
•The panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum and the panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct, the defroster duct and the side window demisters. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
•The heater control valve is at no vacuum allowing the flow of hot coolant to the heater core. Blended air temperature is available.
•The temperature can be adjusted to heat or cool the air below the outside temperature.
•The A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
•The blower motor is ON.
DEFROST

When DEFROST is selected:

•The air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
•The panel/floor door and panel/defrost door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, directing airflow to the defroster duct and the side window demisters.

I would look and see if the compressor is actually cycling in the floor position, which would be abnormal, but the AC should be running in all those other settings for about 9 or 10 months out of the year.

I have a 98 escort zx2 and it does the same thing, I just had to replace the ccrm because I had no ac

@adsm08: thanks for the D+O :)
Seems odd that there would be only one setting where the AC would not be on.....
Screw it..... the windows work.......

Because of the way that air flows through the box any position that uses the floor and another location can't fully seal off the windshield. The idea is to have the AC on any time air can hit the windshield to prevent fogging.
