After reading a thread on a CB radio, I have decided I want one in my truck, it would be the coolest thing ever. I found this one on ebay for cheap:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/COBRA-DX-11-MOBI...979?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0afaa593

Is this a good buy? The pictures say its a Cobra 19DXII, the description says DX11, is this just a typo? Would this be a decent radio, or should I wait for something better? I really don't know anything about them. I would need an antenna also, anything else?

Similar to this one...

I'd say it's a 19DX based on the pic, which has 19DX lettering on the radio.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Cobra 29 LTD which is what I plan to get; if you go with a Cobra, don't get the nightwatch edition. I've heard numerous reports about the backlighting going out VERY quickly.

Not sure about this radio versus the 29 though.

Been looking into this more, I think I would like one with the weather channels, the one on ebay doesn't have that. Also a random question, will a cb radio work with the handheld 2 way radios?

No, it won't. The CB and RF bands run at different frequencies and such. A powerful CB will come over an RF hand held, but the hand held won't be able to be heard on the CB.

Unless of course you get one of the hand held CB radios.

i run a Cobra 29 LTD that's been tuned and peeked in my big truck and have had no issues with it. it's been in my freight liner for 4 years now and is never turned off.i've been told i can peg other radios 5-6 mile away.

No? That was really the main reason I wanted one, I don't know anyone else with a cb radio, just 2 way radios. It would still look awesome though.

whats do you guys thing of the cobra 29 ltd classic? not to thread jack.

After over 40 years of excellence in the CB category, the 29 LTD Classic is now better than ever! Professional driver-requested improvements include a front panel microphone connector (for convenient in-dash installation), a 9-foot microphone cord (for easy reach anywhere within the cab), and tactile controls (for added convenience and safety when adjusting functions). It's the number one choice of professional drivers!

SWR Calibration - Allows calibration of antenna system for maximum performance.

9 Foot Microphone Cord - For easy reach within any area of the vehicle.

Front Microphone Connector - Allows convenient installation to be in dash or under dash.

Adjustable Dynamike Boost - Dynamically boosts microphone for increased voice clarity.

Tactile Controls - Allows you to actually feel where the dial is in it's rotation without taking your eyes off the road.

I have a Midland 5001X installed in my truck. Same one the drivers for Carlisle Trucking on IRT use. I use it more in the winter, listening for guys talking about weather or accidents along my route, but I like it.
