is this as bad as i think it is?

Weld it.. V it out and weld it. I've seen it done to where it works

Coolant leaking, overheating, basically. Don't use that block. Especially since it's not even in the truck. Just go find another one.

yeah im gonna be goin to the local you-pulls this week to find something

At the you-pull places, if you're going for a major component like an engine, do you still have to do the work outside in the sun with oil and grease all over the ground and 2 cars balanced on top of the donor vehicle? If that was the case I'd do the whole removal with nothing but an acetylene torch.

theres one a mile down the road from me, they dont have cars stacked on top of each other, and the have hoists that roll around the yard that u can use, still would be a pain in the ass. they dont let u use a torch either

Do they at least let you drive your vehicle back there so you can carry plenty of tools?

no, they have wheelbarrows that u can use, theres a new one thats 30mins away, gonna try that one out, see what its like

Well i got it off of craigslist in NC, being in MS now it wouldnt be worht the diesel driving up there.

Call the guy back and tell him what you found and at least ask for half of your money back. You could get a block for that and swap the internals over. If he refuses to help you any way post an ad on craigslist telling people what he did to you and post his number in your add so people will now to stay away from him.

what would happen running it like this anyways?

What would happen ? Permanent milkshake in the oil pan. I have a good rebuildable 5.0 roller block for $100 but the only catch is the rear main cap seal ring is busted, it doesn't affect the sealing of the block as the oilpan holds it in place around the rear seal. I've got the same piece busted on the block I built my 331 around. It's never given any trouble either.

dude dont even think about it, it's a big ass paper weight. sorry to be so harash but you will be burned 90% of the time on craigslist trust me i know and if i still had that guys address i would light his car on fire :yahoo: but hey ohhhhhh well i leaned my lesson i own a shop and i could tell it will leak baddddddddd no matter what you do to it or no matter what you try to put in it, it will leak

weld it... lol.

just for sh!t and giggles. i've seen it done and worked... but... i've seen it fail to lol

I have always had good luck with bone yard engines I believe ones with a engine fire are the best they always get shut down fast and you need to change all the gaskets anyway while it is out. That engine was probably still running except it may also have a over heating problem he forgot to tell you!
