Is this a decent OBDII scanner to buy?

That might just give you basic codes to follow. But if that's all you're after by all means get it.

A GOOD Generic scanner like a Snap On cost somewhere up to $4000-$5000. Not worth it unless you use it daily. Funny that most auto-techs fail to buy one. They rely on the shop, or the "veteran" in the shop. When he leaves, they're screwed.....

Well this one costs $119, but there are others that cost like $40.

What would be the major difference between the two?

That one can give you real time data as well as tell you what the code is and what it means. The cheaper one, which I have, will only give you a code and you have to look it up.

I personally use the Actron OBD I/II super scanner. Works really well and have not had a problem with it. Have used it for customers and my own vehicles.

Live data feed is a must when firguring out problems. Just because the PCM throws a code, doesn't mean thats the problem.

Thanks guys, but while you were asnwering me in this post I was out buying a scanner. They did'nt have the one I posted so I had to buy one that does'nt have "live data feed". Oh well, the code I'm getting now is P0171 (system too lean bank-1).

Guess I'll start another thread on where to look. It says it could even be my FPR. When I disconnect the vaccum line the idle does'nt change at all. Is that normal? Thanks

FPR? Fuel Pressure Regulator?

Yes the Fuel Pressure Regulator. Should the idle change when I unplug it? Thanks.
