I have a 1991 ranger with a 4.0l 5 speed (m5r1) 4x4. i have 4.56 gears in the front and rear with 35 inch tires. the truck is super low geared, i can start out in second gear very easy, and it cruses at 3100 rpms at 65-70 ish. i was wondering if i have a special lower geared transmission. the truck is a special order (custom) badged ranger. so idk if that has anything to do with it.

The 4.0 had taller 1st-3rd gears than all the other M5ODs. I have a 4.0 with effectively 33" tires and 4.56s and wouldn't call it super low geared by any stretch of the imagination, no way I would take off in 2nd, talk about clutch abuse. And your tach/speedometer is wrong, the math says 2400RPM at 70 in 5th gear.

4.56 is actually a little on the tall side for 35" tires (4.88 being ideal with the 4.0L).

I agree, your tach is probably wrong, you should drive it by 'feel', not by what the tach says.

i am pretty sure that the tech is right it idles at 700 and hits rev limter around 5500 according to the tach and the speedo reads 7 miles fast at 65 according to my gps. so that proves that it is lower geared then stock with 4.56 and 35s

The math doesn't lie, it's only around 2400RPMs at 70.
