it will have a huge sticker on the side of it.
if it doesnt have the stickers, then check the size of the rear axle tubes. If they have a 2.75 " diameter than it is a 28 spline 8.8, and NOT an FX4. If it is an FX4 it will have a 31 spline 8.8, and have 3.25 " diameter tubes.
????How does this relate to this thread???
Anyway... I don't think level 2s where made in 2003... The first year for the FX4? So a normal FX4 has all the level 2 stuff...
Another check is to make sure it has skid plates?

2003 was the first year of the level 2. 2002 was the first year of the FX4 and is equivalent to the level 2.
The easiest way to check for a FX4 level 2 besides the decals is look for the stainless steel front tow hooks and the seats should have either blue or red center inserts.
There should be a tag on the rear axle identifying it as the 8.8 differential and it should also state using only synthetic gear lube.
