i was banging around CL when i found a ford 9 inch rear end for $50,its from a 77 ford ltd. complete hub to hub took out of car b4 junking.. :icon_confused:

i am almost done with my dana 30 swap so i have no real need for a fullsize rear end at this moment, but i have dreams of running fullsize front and rears in 2 1/2 - 3 years when i graduate from university

so would this be a good buy to squirrel any parts i might need up, or is it a dime a dozen?

Only thing that you could use is the third member and I'd only pick it up if it was the "hd" version. Other than that, no.

Also that'll probably be the small bearing 9" rear. Look for the big bearing. IIRC it came under a lot of trucks. But yes, theyre pretty common.

31-spline 8.8 is stronger than the 9" anyway. The 9 inch is only good at the track if you want to have multiple gear sets ready to go.

Exactly. The 9" is a better axle to build. Its cheaper, more parts are available...Its the SBC of axles. But stock vs stock a 31 spline 8.8 is stronger then a 28 spline 9" car axle.

Interesting, didn't know that about inherent strength, but I did know about the aftermarket (which is exactly why I chose it).

Also I wanted it because it'd be easier to throw a spool in before an outing and keep it open while DDing it. :D

The amount of knowledge you guys have never ceases to amaze me:icon_thumby: THANKS GUYS
yeah i think ill just old off and put a buddy(who buys demo cars & trucks like he changes his tighty whiteys) on to looking for a 14 bolt rear and a HP 44 or 60 for the front, ill get them at scrap price so ill wait and bid my time:beer::beer::beer:
