Is it possible to replace 93 4.0 with 98 4.0?

What would be involved in doing this? I hear the heads are a little different, but would the intake manifolds, ecu, etc. work? Or could I do it with the 93 setup?

Thanks,

Carlos

Its funny that you ask. I have a 93 Ranger with a 98 4.0. My truck already had the swap done when i got it. They swapped the motor, trans computer and harness from an explorer. The truck originally had a 5 speed manual trans. Now it has a 5 speed auto. I believe all you will have to do on yours is swap the motor, computer harness and the computer. Im not real sure about the trans harness though.

ANother funny thing...

Never mind... I just found out... it was sold to me as a 3.0... but it actually is a factory 4.0 (confirmed by engine block number and VIN).

So.. now I just have to figure out if I can replace it with a newer one, as I hear the heads on these are a pain...

Newer than what? How many miles are on it - you should expect 1/4 million before anything serious. What do the heads have to do with it if they aren't cracked, leaking, etc.

Do a bit more research about the 4.0 on this site before you start fixing things that aren't broken.
