Hello, I have a 2004 Ranger EDGE with a factory single CD/tape in-dash player. I recently got an iPod Touch and I want to use it in the truck. I don't want to use an AM/FM receiver adapter as I've never been convinced of their sound quality or reliability.

A friend of mine has an '01 Mustang GT that he installed some kind of CD changer adapter in that allows him to use the factory controls to select his iPod tunes. I'd like to do something similar but what would I have to get? I'm not opposed to changing the factory radio, but I want to still have a CD player of some kind either way.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Erik

Checkout a Ford dealer. They have a jack that should fit your factory stereo, its around $100 installed or $30 for just the jack. They call it "trip tunes" I think.I'm thinking of putting one in my 05,I'm using an FM adapter and it leaves much to be desired in sound quality.Hope this helps.

If you care about sound quality at all, your best bet is an Ipod ready aftermarket unit, and if i read that right and you have the tape/CD ford unit you can sell that to cover most of the new unit. But no matter what *most* head units wont charge an Ipod touch.

I have a headunit with an ipod jack on the back. Get the cable for it that connects directly to your ipod, can control everything from the headunit and it charges it.

If you have an AUX port, you can just get that cable which is pretty cheap. I use that with my new head unit. Using something that plugs in will obviously give you the best quality. Before I used the cable, I used a Cassette with a cord that plugged into the headphone jack on the iPod. Both of those work well for me.

I agree with the aftermarket deck option, you get much better sound, than with the stock deck. Just make sure to buy one that comes with the cord that plugs into the ipod, that way it will charge. And all aftermarket decks have CD players. It's also a very simple swap.

I run a Kenwood unit with the USB cable in the back. I run the cable to the glovebox. It is designed to run a USB key and it controls / charges the touch.
