Intro and trans question

Hey guys, short time lurker with a question about a trans, hello.

So I have a bad A4LD from an 86 ranger 2wd. I found a 86 4x4 trans, can I use it, and what needs to be changed? Tail housing? What's involved in that?

The trans will need to be completely disassembled to swap in the proper 2wd output shaft before it can be used in a 2wd application.

Or you can leave the t-case on it and get the drive shaft.
